Boyle blasts brutal beating

DETECTIVES in Coleraine are appealing for the public’s help following a reported aggravated burglary at premises in the Farranseer Park area of the town last week.

Shortly before midnight on Wednesday, August 24, police received a call to say that three unknown masked men had entered a house in the area armed with metal bars and baseball bats.

During the incident, a man was allegedly assaulted with the weapons in an upstairs bedroom in front of his partner and young daughter, who were in the same room.

The man was taken to Causeway Hospital and treated for “non life-threatening” injuries to his face and hands.

Alliance councillor, Yvonne Boyle ,(pictured) expressed her shock at its violent nature and condemned those involved for putting a young child through such a trauma.

“I am appalled and shocked at the brutality of this assault,” she told The Times.

“I hope the victim will be able to make a full recovery from his injuries. This is a very disturbing crime carried out by those who have no regard for the well being of others.”

Urging the local community to pass on any information to the PSNI, she added: “The police need to apprehend these individuals and so I would urge anybody with any information about this attack to contact the police.”

A PSNI spokesman confirmed enquiries into the attack were “ongoing” and anyone with information should contact Coleraine CID on 0845 600 8000 or, anonymously, Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
