Filled in wrong start date on insurance

A motorist who filled in the wrong start date on his car insurance when purchasing online, was fined £200 with a £15 offender levy at Magherafelt Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

John Adrian Cartin (31), of Sperrin View, Magherafelt, was also given six penalty points.

The court heard the offence came to light when police spoke to the defendant in the car at Castledawson Road, Magherafelt, on September 21 last.

A PPS lawyer said the defendant told police he was giving a couple of friends a lift home.

The lawyer said checks of the system showed there was no record of insurance.

Admitting the offence Stephen Atherton, solicitor, said the defendant had purchased the car on September 18 and applied for insurance online but “very unfortunately” filled in the incorrect start date.
