David a championship contender

DAVID Cairns proved he's a championship contender in round three at the Craigavon Model Car Club.

Cairns didn’t grab pole position but a faultless half hour in the final win sealed the weekend’s top vital points.

Robert Charters led them off at the start but an error cost him a dearly in the early stages. Moira’s Mike Sloan took advantage of the error and took the lead with Cairns behind and making ground every lap. Mike then lost a wheel and that put an end to his challenge.

Cairns went through to the front and at that point never looked back. Charters came back to grab the second spot and Philip Cairns made the top three.

The bikes saw one of the closest races to date with David Adair claiming a win in leg one and Craig Robinson taking the second leg win.

Robinson was on form throughout the day to really put the pressure on Adair. Adair led from the off but an error with a minute to go let Robinson through with Robert Charters hard on his heels. Robinson battled hard to fend Charters off with under a second between them at the line and Adair made it the top three.

The buggies hadn’t their best turn out to date but still showed some close racing. John Jennett set his buggy on pole and throughout the heats proved to be the main contender.

Three laps warm up for the final robbed him off his chance to even start when electrical failure kicked in and wrecked his buggy.

Andy Fegan lead them off then and went on to claim his second win of the season. His son Nathan followed him home for the second spot and Alex White made the top three.

This Saturday four of the local bike guys go to Brooklands in England to compete in a round of the British Championship.
