Doherty brace helps Colts to victory

THREE was the magic number for Coleraine Colts on Saturday.

Victor Hunter's young side travelled to Lisburn to play Crewe United in a league match. Two goals from Doherty and third from Boylan helped Coleraine to a 3-1 victory.

Coleraine made a good start with Ryan Doherty and Sam Boylan both having early chances.

It took the Bannsiders just 20 minutes to open the scoring, Johnny Dinsmore finding Sam Boylan who slotted home from close range.

Stuart Millar almost made it 2-0 ten minutes later when his free kick was cleared off the goal line.

The Colts increased doubled lead two minutes into the second half when Ryan Doherty chipped the ball into the net from ten yards.

Doherty wasn't happy with just one and doubled his tally to make it 3-0 to Coleraine soon after.

The home side were awarded a penalty late on, when defender Paul Milliken was adjudged to have pushed a Crewe forward, but Coleraine keeper Conor Dunlop saved the spot kick.

However the home side did manage to grab a late consolation goal.
