Police detected a strong smell of cannabis coming from the vehicle.

Mr O’Neill was a front seat passenger in the vehicle and police observed Mr O’Neill appear to conceal something down his trousers.

He was asked to remove the object and he handed over to officers a cannabis grinder which contained a small amount of cannabis.

Mr O’Neill admitted to officers the cannabis was his and was for his own personal use. A defence solicitor told the court his client had been using the cannabis for his depression but now has completely desisted from using the drug.

District Judge John Meehan handed down a fine of £100 for the offence and ordered a destruction order to be imposed for the drugs seized.
