DVD Launch Party at St. Joseph's

P.6 pupils from St. Joseph's Primary School, Dunloy came together with their counterparts from Ballysally Primary School, Coleraine to celebrate the success of their joint EMU project for this year.

In conjunction with the Verbal Arts Centre, the children took part in workshops to explore facts and myths about flags and symbols associated with their religious and cultural traditions.

They went on to produce a DVD portraying scenes from the novel “Divided City” by Therese Breslin, which deals with conflict across the religious divide in Glasgow.

The children worked with a professional artist to create slides of the text and were given access to the sound studio to record voice-overs. The result was an entertaining DVD which was launched in Ballysally and more recently in Dunloy.

At the Dunloy “premiere”, parents and guests were welcomed by the P.6 pupils who explained the background to the project.

School Principal, Mrs. Maura McAlonan, congratulated the children on the quality of the finished product and thanked the NEELB’s Schools’ Community Relations Programme as well as Ballymoney Borough Council’s Good Relations Programme for funding the project. She reiterated thanks to the parents who continue to support cross-community programmes in the school.

Mr. Michael McCafferty, attending on behalf of Ballymoney Borough Council, paid tribute to the children and staff for their hard work and expressed his delight at the success of the programme.

The children were then treated to refreshments and a lively dance workshop to round off the celebrations.
