Bandsmen in town clean-up

AFTER the recent launch of Lurgan Forward’s vision document members of local band Upper Bann Fusiliers indicated a willingness to become involved in helping with projects in the town.

They identified areas of general untidiness in Queen Street, High Street (including the off street car park) and Windsor Avenue which were detrimental to the improving image of the town.

As a result bandsmen came together on Monday evening to do a clean up in the blighted areas.

Their combined effort made a remarkable difference in a very short space of time.

Charlie Gardiner from Lurgan Forward was with the volunteers during the clean up.

He said: “It is great to see groups within the community taking an interest and doing something about it.

“While this may seem a small project hopefully it is the beginning of all types of diverse groups working for the good of the whole town.

“Certainly anyone visiting Queen Street/High Street or going down Windsor Avenue to the park will see a dramatic difference.

“Perhaps this will be an inspiration for shopkeepers to look at the front of their own premises.”
