Excitement builds for pipe band contest

The countdown is on for the Craigavon & District Pipe Band and Drum Major Championships which will be held this Saturday (June 15) in 
Lurgan Park.

Organised by the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association (County Down section) in partnership with Craigavon Borough Council, the event will begin at 11am and will be a fantastic day filled with mesmerising 
music showcased by 
talented musicians from near and far including Field Marshal Montgomery and locally based Battlehill Pipe 
Band, Portadown.

Bands from the Irish Association will also be attending including Wexford’s New Ross and District Pipe Band and Gorey Pipe Band and Donegal’s Thiepval Memorial and Manorcunningham Pipe Band.

There will also be an artisan food village located in the park with a wide variety of foods on offer. 
Stalls on display include Hilltop Honey NI, Laura’s Larder, Red Dog, Heavenly Cupcakes, Milkymoo Shakes, Cirillo, and 7th Heaven.

In addition, close to the village will ample fun-filled family entertainment including face painting, balloon modeling and well-known walkabout characters.

Newly-elected Mayor of Craigavon, Councillor Mark Baxter, said: “Craigavon Borough Council is delighted to host this fantastic championship and excitement has 
been building throughout the area in anticipation of the event.

“With excellent music, talented instrumentalists, good food and fun-filled family activities – it’s a day out 
not to miss.”

Mervyn Herron, RSPBA NI, Contest Administrator, commented: “There will be hundreds of competitors entertaining the crowds on 
the day and competition will be stiff among all the talented musicians.

“It will be a great day out for all - see you there!”

Visitors to the event should enter the park via the Avenue Road entrance as car parking is available there.

The car park will be open from 9am onwards.

There is also car parking available in car parks throughout Lurgan town centre.

In addition, there will be a complimentary shuttle bus from Lurgan Town Hall to the event every 30 minutes starting at 11am.

Admission to the event is £4 with 16-year-olds and under go free.
