Exhibition at R Space setto sparkle

The R-Space Gallery at Castle Street in Lisburn will host the exhibition entitled ‘Double Flipside’, which runs from August 2-30, aiming to give a glimpse of Dr Sarah McAleer and Eddie Doherty’s ‘alternative sides’.

They will share some of the many complementary ideals, design styles and construction techniques and will investigate how they convert inspirations and concepts into three dimensions.

Sunflower Fest is another event for craft lovers which takes place in August in Tubby’s Farm in Hillsborough from August 22 to 25.

The three day festival will be full of live music, poetry, story-telling and crafts.

Events include wood-turning, willow-sculpting, a blacksmith forge, straw weaving, felting and spinning.

The Top Floor Gallery and Open Studios is hosting a beginner crochet and knitting workshops on Saturdays, plus a special embroidered Tepee demonstration.

The eighth annual celebration of craft, co-ordinated by Craft NI is the largest ever, with more than 100 events taking place throughout Northern Ireland showing how craft’s influence touches on all aspects of life including politics, the environment, business, cultural tourism and education.

Craft NI Chief Executive Alan Kane said, “Craft occupies a central role in our lives, providing jobs, income, tourist opportunities, a sense of place and community and beauty and pleasure.

“For this year’s August Craft Month we are focusing on the makers themselves, the importance of craft and the relationships that have been forged with other sectors including busness, tourism and education.”
