Drugs and alcohol are prevalent in our society, affecting people’s lives on a daily basis.

To try and combat this issue, alcohol and drugs have been identified as a priority within the local Policing Plan for Craigavon and the Craigavon Policing and Community Safety Partnership Action Plan regarding education, awareness and supply.

Two important information sessions are being held and targeted at both young people and parents to ensure that they find out what they need to know about drugs and alcohol.

The first event is for young people – Drugs and Alcohol: ‘Your Voice, Your Choice’ - and will be held on Thursday, November 21,from 7pm to 9pm in Craigavon Civic Centre.

The second is on Thursday,November 28, and is aimed at parents – ‘Parents Beware: Drugs and Alcohol Are Out There’ – again from 7pm to 9pm in Craigavon Civic Centre.

Both events will feature information stands, counsellors, a theatre forum and a hard-hitting, real life story from the parent of a young person who took methadone.

These sessions will arm both young people and parents with the information they need to know about drugs and alcohol and how they can best deal with the issues they may face.

Consequences of the effects of the misuse of drugs and alcohol include poor health, non-attendance at school, committing crimes to support habits as well as the increased risk of being a victim of violent crime and sexual exploitation.
