‘Freedom of the Borough’ sub committee to be set up by Council

A SUB committee has been set up by Coleraine Borough Council to deal with Freedom of the Borough requests.

At last Tuesday’s meeting, the Chief Executive, Roger Wilson, told members that there were currently “a number” of requests on file.

He added that as Council would cease to exist in March 2015 these requests would need to be looked at.

DUP councillor Adrian McQuillan proposed that a committee of eight councillors should be elected under the D’Hont system.

An amendment from SDLP councillor Maura Hickey proposed that one councillor from each party and an independent should sit on the committee.

On being put to a vote councillor Hickey’s amendment was rejected.

Under the D’hont system four DUP councillors, two UUP, one SDLP and one Alliance councillor will sit on the sub-committee.
