Friends’ pupilswin chess awards
TWO Friends’ pupils have recently attended the Belfast Scholastic Chess Awards.
John Dawson (Year 10) and Joel Dawson (Year 8) attended the awards hosted by Kieran McCarthy MLA at Parliament Buildings, Stormont. There they participated in the Elite Tournament, held during the event.
Participation in the Elite tournament is limited to pupils with the best overall record of achievement in Children’s Chess Events, which are organised by the Ulster Chess Union throughout the year.
Both boys performed well against strong opposition with John being placed third and Joel fourth in the lower secondary category (Years 8-10)
