Further remand for McDaid accused

EIGHT men charged in connection with the murder of Coleraine Catholic father of four, Kevin McDaid appeared before Ballymena Magistrates' Court last week.

The men were all released on continuing bail, and will re-appear before the court again on April 22.

They were David Craig Cochrane, 18, of Windyhill Park, who is charged with the murder of Mr McDaid and attempted murder, his father, David James Cochrane, 47, of Windyhill Park accused of causing an affray; Ivan Beattie McDowell, 42, of Lisnablagh Road, who is charged with attempted murder; Aaron Thomas Beech, 23, of Windyhall Park, charged with attempted murder and assault; Paul Andrew Newman, 40, of Grassmere Close, who is charged with murder and attempted murder; John McGrath, 50, of Hawthorne Place who is charged with murder, attempted murder and assault; James McAfee, 28, of Lisnablagh Road, who is charged with attempted murder, and Phillip Edwin Kane, (34) of Brook Street in Coleraine who is charged with attempted murder.

Court heard that it will be 'several months' before the case goes to trial.
