Given a brief disqualification for practicing

Paulina Szajwska, Enniskeen, Craigavon, admitted three motoring offences when she appeared last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

They were driving without insurance on March 16 this year, not displaying ‘L’ plates and driving unsupervised.

For each offence she was fined £25 and banned from driving for 14 days.

The court heard that at 12.15pm police received a report of a car being driven in the Enniskeen area. They located a vehicle being driven by the defendant who was a learner driver and appeared to be practicing her driving. She was only a short distance from her home.

Mr Conor Downey, representing the defendant, said she had subsequently passed the driving test and her insurance was in order. He explained that a neighbour had been concerned about the defendant’s driving. She was practicing her three point turn and reversing around corners.

Mr Downey added that because his client was now an ‘R’ driver the imposition of six points would mean she would have to re-sit her test.

He asked the judge to consider imposing a short period of disqualification which would mean she would not have to do her test again.

Deputy District Judge Rea said there was limited risk to the public and this was an unusual incident.
