Good Samaritans ensure man in wheelchair gets home

The act of kindness was witnessed by an employee at Supervalue at Flush Place.

She told the ‘MAIL’: “I was in work on Thursday and watching some young boys in school uniform hanging around at the roundabout. One of the boys came running in asking for help for a gentleman in an electric wheelchair whose battery had died.

“I went and talked to the man to see what I could do to help. He told me he couldn’t reach his mother on the phone and needed some help to get to his home on the Gilford Road.

“I went to see if I could round up some guys with muscles to help but before I could get back out I saw the young boys trying to push him and then along came a group of older, stronger young men and I watched as four of them started to push him home.”

The woman said: “I’m telling this story because in this day and age young people get the attention because they don’t say ‘please’ or ‘thank you’. They don’t hold doors, they yell, shout and harass others. They are, as my father would say, yobs.

“It is refreshing to know that there are children still being raised the right way. They tried to help a total stranger. They deserve to be noticed, applauded and held up as a measurement of what young men should be. I congratulate them and their parents.”
