Principal of the Glengormley school, Mr Peter Friel, was delighted with the efforts of the Year 12 boys, who produced the college’s best ever set of results.

“The hard work of both pupils and staff has paid off in a big way. The outstanding GCSE results have meant that a large proportion of our students are opting to stay on for further study in a variety of academic and vocational areas. We take great pride in this as it reflects the sense of community and belonging that exists within the school,” he commented.

The college’s A Level students reaped similar rewards, producing excellent grades in a range of Post 16 courses.

“Our older lads followed a variety of pathways at Post 16 and they now leave excellently prepared for university, college or work. All of our students seeking to go on to further study at university or college level have now been placed. This is a great relief to the students themselves and gives great satisfaction to all in the school,” Mr Friel continued.

“The variety of pathways our students are now going on - accountancy to teaching, apprenticeships in mechanical engineering or in the trades, catering and the service sector - reflects what we are about and what we excel at, meeting the needs of every pupil. We are looking forward to getting back in the new term as we continue to strive for the absolute best opportunities for every student who chooses Edmund Rice College.”
