The tree, which is proudly displayed in the centre of town has so far appeared on UTV with Frank Mitchell and the Belfast Telegraph has even reported on the 12ft Norway Spruce.

Local resident Norman Bell often photgraphs the bushy, well lit photogenic tree, flanked on each side of the tree-lined boulevard that is also twinkling with lights.

Homegrown in Tyrone, he said: “It looks very classy. People have been on Facebook saying the tree does Cookstown proud.

“I have been photographing the Christmas lights and Christmas tree for several years and the visual impact of the Christmas lights in Cookstown have been improving.

Motorists driving over the Oldtown Hill have a marvellous vista in front of them when the Christmas lights are on.

“One thing that pleases me is when former Cookstown people now living and working away from home - some many thousands of miles away see the town pictured at Christmas on social media [and] it brings back fond memories. Some have even stated it made them homesick.”

“The Cookstown tree actually looks better this year! I think the Norwegian government are getting a bit tired of supplying London’s needs,” he said.

Ruby McCullough, who is also from the town, is so proud of the trees, she posted a picture of the display from Frank Mitchell on UTV, with the caption: “Yes so proud of our beautiful town Christmas tree and lights.”
