Helping parents keep one step ahead

Child safety is a priority for every parent and this new initiative ‘Keeping one step ahead’ will provide practical advice and reminders on how to keep your baby safe as they develop into toddlers with new skills, new abilities and a boundless sense of curiosity.

The first information evening will be held on Wednesday, September 11, in the Green Room of the newly refurbished YMCA Centre in Lurgan, starting at 7pm and running to 9pm.

During the course of the evening parents will be given information on topics such as: Blind cord safety, falls, burns and scalds; child development and home accidents; good safety practices within the home.

A free information pack together with home safety aids will be provided on the night.

Nina Daly, Accident Prevention Officer, Southern Trust said: “Accidents in the home are more common than people believe so it’s best not to leave child safety to chance.

“Keeping one step ahead will show parents how to see their home environment through the eyes of their child. After these two hours parents will have a much better understanding of child safety within the home.

“We would encourage any parent to come along to one of our evenings. The information will be conveyed in a warm and friendly manner. Child safety requires small and simple steps to help protect a child from a serious injury, many of which cost little or no money and can easily fit into busy lives.”
