Lapsed policy catches driver out

The forfeiture of a vehicle driven by a 20-year-old without having insurance was ordered last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

Callum Penn, Milltown Road, Donaghcloney, was fined £200 for the offence and given six points.

On November 7 last year a police check on a car driven by the defendant in Lurgan showed there was no insurance in place. Penn said his brother who was in England gave him permission to drive.

A defending solicitor handed in a GP’s report and a character reference on behalf of his client.

He explained the defendant had been insured on a comprehensive policy but this had lapsed.
