Local building contractor is ‘AWARE’ of mental health importance

Dunloy firm, Dixons, has recently announced that it has chosen Northern Ireland mental health charity AWARE (formerly Aware Defeat Depression) as one of its nominated charities for 2015/16.

In May, employees of Dixons took part in the Deep River Rock Belfast City Marathon to promote AWARE.

Thanks to the excellent fundraising by the staff team, they were delighted to present a cheque for £2000 to AWARE, the only charity in Northern Ireland which works exclusively for those affected by depression.

Declan McKendry, Managing Director of Dixons explained why the company chose AWARE: “We have supported AWARE over the past couple of years and it is a charity that is very close to our hearts. As an employer, we recognise the importance of supporting health and wellbeing and this is something we look forward to developing further within the organisation.”

Colleen Milligan, Corporate Fundraiser for AWARE congratulated the team; “We are delighted at the support we have received from Dixons. To have a company like Dixons supporting us is fantastic and we are delighted with this partnership.

“The money raised from Dixons will go directly to those affected by depression and will fund our support groups and enable us to deliver educational programmes to schools, community groups and the private sector.”
