Man altered diazepam note

Suspicious staff thought a dosage for diazepam seemed too big and when they checked with a doctor they found an outpatient advice note had been altered by a patient in a bid to get more of the drug on prescription.

Coleraine Magistrates Court was told last Monday William Millar (37), of Causeway Street, Portrush, previously pleaded guilty to fraud by false representation which involved presenting the note at Portrush Medical Centre.

A prosecutor said suspicions were raised due to the size of the dosage and Millar admitted he had amended the note in a bid to receive a larger dose.

Defence solicitor Stewart Ballentine said his client’s diazepam dose was being being reduced and he felt he couldn’t cope with the smaller amount.

District Judge Des Perry put Millar on probation for 18 months.

* A Ballymoney man was in the Isle of Man and allowed a neighbour to drive his van.

However the driver was detected at the town’s John Street on July 8 this year without insurance.

At Coleraine Magistrates Court the van’s owner, Darryl Tweed (25), of West Gate, admitted a charge of permitting no insurance.

A defence solicitor said the neighbour said he had insurance. Tweed was banned from the road for a week and fined £200.
