As he chaired the last ever meeting of Coleraine Borough Council last Tuesday night, cllr Duddy said: “Think about the communities that you represent, they are the people who suffer when you don’t get on.

“You need to get on with the task in hand,” he urged.

Looking back in his year in office, Mayor Duddy described it as ‘great experience’ meeting people from ‘all walks of life’.

He admitted that he had had a few sleepless nights thinking about the people he had met and the challenges that they face, ‘you feel small that you cannot address their issues,’ he said.

In his closing speech he paid tribute to the community volunteers of the area and the staff of Council.

“The staff here are the best staff in any council within Northern Ireland.

“They are dedicated to the people of this borough.

“It has been an honour and privilege to walk through the Council buildings, I have gained an invaluable experience as to what our staff do.

“There are massive changes ahead, and I would appeal to Causeway Coast and Glens councillors to remember our staff and support them.”
