McKay welcomes assurances to retain Post Office

North Antrim Sinn Féin MLA Daithí McKay has welcomed assurances from the Post Office that they intend to retain services in Glarryford.

He said: “The Post Office is to embark on an investment programme which will also involve the development of new branch models designed to improve customer convenience through longer opening hours, a simplified face to face service and refurbished branches.

“Subpostmasters are being consulted on whether or not they would be interested in the investment opportunity to convert to one of the new models; stay as they are or leave the business.

“I know that there was some concern about Glarryford Post Office given recent changes there but the Post Office assures me that despite this the facility will stay open. I welcome this reassurance, the Post Office is at the heart of many rural communities and the Glarryford Office provides a service for not only Glarryford but much further afield and was used by many rural residents here to collect their mail during the extreme weather of last winter.

“It is important that this is retained and indeed improved upon across rural North Antrim by the use of the investment programme.”
