Moderator welcomes UDA's move on weapons
PRESBYTERIAN Moderator, Rev. Dr. Stafford Carson, has welcomed the recent decommissioning of UDA weapons.
He added: “While many of us believe it should have happened a long time ago it is, none the less, a vital and important step for those involved and is a strong message to any other groups still holding on to weapons to decommission without further delay.”
Dr. Carson continued: “Violence has no place in our society where decisions must be made through the democratic processes. Consequently I would encourage our politicians to, firstly, support those communities that have renounced violence and criminality and are seeking to transform themselves and, secondly, continue in the difficult task they have in developing our whole society into a place where everyone is valued and can feel at home.”
