New visitor guide for Ballymoney

With the Dark Hedges one of the series’ key locations, the 300-year old beech trees have become a huge fascination for thousands of visitors and the Guide makes early mention of its popularity and an ideal place to visit.

Also featured prominently is Sheans Farm where visitors can, through guided tours, relive the region’s turbulent and epic history at Slieve-an-Orra when the Clan McQuillan joined forces with the O’Neills, backed by the English, to overthrow the powerful MacDonnells and cement their dominance in North Antrim.

There is much to see inside with two pages given to the Memorial Gardens created in memory of Dunlop brothers, Joey and Robert, who dominated the motor bike scene in a glorious era some years ago.

A map detailing the Causeway Coastal Route makes a handy guide for motorists and, inevitably, tourists are directed to another jewel in the crown, Drumaheglis Marina and Caravan Park.

There are also six mapped cycling routes as well as the same number of walking routes.

Ballymoney Museum, Gracehill Golf Club, the Leck Game Farm, The Range Archery and the Room to Race Virtual Racing at the Acorn Business centre are all seen as worthwhile places to visit.

Alderman Bill Kennedy, Mayor of Ballymoney, and the town’s Chamber of Commerce President, Mrs Winnie Mellett, officially launched the Guide at the Joey Dunlop Memorial Garden and both feel that the publication will greatly enhance tourism in the Borough and beyond.
