New Year sit out raises more than Â£3k

Louise and Jim from Lime Coffee Shop on Church Street who very kindly brought Jonathan coffee and soup during the sit-out.

Jonathan set up camp on Church Street at 10.30am on New Year’s Eve and sat right through until 10.30am on New Year’s Day and he would like to say a sincere thank you to everyone who called and made generous donations.

Thanks also to Martyn Blair for the use of his cattle trailer again!

All the donations go to the work that he is involved with in Uganda with the local ‘Go Uganda’ team and Fields of Life.

Jonathan said: “It was a real encouragement that so many people called right through the 24 hours.” The only quiet time he had was from about 3.30am to around 7.30am. Jonathan said he was overwhelmed with the support.

“This will make an amazing difference when you think that you can sink a bore-hole for £3,600 which will bring fresh clean water to a village of several thousand people,” he said.

“All monies raised shall be used towards school building and teaching projects in Northern Uganda.

“We liaise with Fields of Life who will advise us of the greatest needs and suggest a number of projects for us to work with, their assistance is vital as they have staff in Uganda who can manage the project from beginning to end.“

Jonathan said it was very important that he thanked everyone for their support for without it the Go Uganda team wouldn’t be able to do the wor they are involved with in East Africa, but ultimately he wanted to “thank God for his provision and undertaking for all that took place during the sit-out.

“The Psalmist says in Psalm 100 v4 & 5 ‘Give thanks to him praise his name, for the Lord is good, and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations’.

Jonathan says he enjoys the sit out: “It’s a great opportunity to witness to folk and to meet other people involved in similar missions throughout the world and to encourage each other in the Lord’s work.

“What a privilege it is to see what God is doing and the changes that are taking place in people’s lives here and in communities in east Africa as well.

“That is the ultimate change we want to see in peoples lives....to come to know him as their own personal Saviour.

‘For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise’. 1st Chronicles 16 v 25.”
