Reminder over social distancing in parks

Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council has sought to remind residents to adhere to social distancing guidelines throughout the borough’s parks and public spaces.

Current guidelines allow people to leave their homes for exercise once per day for activities such as a walk, run or bike ride.

While the borough’s children’s play areas remain closed, Council’s parks and open spaces are open for pedestrian access but social distancing should be observed at all times.

Calling on people to keep the these public spaces safe, the Council’s Lord Mayor, Councillor Mealla Campbell, said: “I would urge people to follow the social distancing guidelines while using our parks.

“These measures are essential during this time in order for people to keep themselves and others safe.

“Please keep our parks safe for everyone to use, remember to dispose of your litter responsibly and keep dogs on leads to ensure social distancing can be maintained at all times.”

This call comes just 12 days after Council issued a “gentle reminder” that the borough’s parks are open for pedestrian access only.

“Gentle Reminder: Our parks are open for pedestrian access only,” read a post on the Council’s Facebook page.

Residents are asked to please adhere to the social distancing measures and guidance in place, to enable all users to stay safe whilst exercising.

“All car parks are now closed and people are advised not to travel to parks at this time.”
