‘Phone service reinstatement’ welcomed

EAST Antrim Sinn Fein MLA Oliver McMullan and Glens Sinn Fein councillor Colum Thompson attended a meeting, along with residents of the Parkmore area, with representatives of Everything Everywhere (formally Orange and T-Mobile) to discuss the company’s decision to cut mobile phone coverage in and around Parkmore.

Mr McMullan spoke at length about the social impact of the decision and pointed out that many elderly and vulnerable people in the area relied on their mobile phones as a means of contacting their families and care providers.

Cllr Thompson said: “Everything Everywhere admitted that they had underestimated the amount of people their decision would effect and agreed to reinstate service from their existing mast for between six and twelve months while they investigated a permanent solution to the problem, a move I welcomed.

“I am delighted that Everything Everywhere have decided to reinstate the mobile phone service and I hope that a permanent solution can be found. Many people rely on their phones, not just socially but for businesses as well and the measures which have been put in place should address any issues that had arisen.”
