Plans are lodged for Clondermot

An application for a three storey office building for community organisations and for the provision of new road access via Irish Street including car parking and landscaping has been lodged with the planners.

The new development of the site - left after the amalgamation of Clondermot High and Faughan Valley High formed Lisneal College - promises major regeneration with Derry City Council offices and a new training centre for young people planned.

The huge project at the Clondermot High School site on Irish Street is being overseen by the Waterside Development Trust and is expected to include a number of other agencies bringing vital educational and health services to the area. Plans mooted for the 12-acre site include a new training centre for young people, which will be a part of the North West Regional College, and the local Health Trust, which will occupy a number of acres each. Last year Social Development Margaret Ritchie announced her Department was to acquire and oversee redevelopment and regeneration of the former Clondermot School with a funding allocation of 3.2m.

She said the site had the potential to make an enormous contribution to the regeneration of the Waterside area and, given its location, offer an opportunity to deliver a flagship 'Shared Future' regeneration scheme in Londonderry.

DSD has produced an ambitious conceptual master-plan for the site indicating how it could be developed to deliver health, education, community business and other services.
