Foyle Assembly Election 2016: A vote for the SDLP, Sinn Féin or the DUP would be a waste of time - McCann

People Before Profit candidate Eamonn McCann says the party can change the dynamics at Stormont if he and one or two colleagues win seats in the Assembly Elections this week.

He stated: “Our key message is: don’t waste your vote. A vote for the SDLP, Sinn Féin or the DUP would be a waste of time. It would be asking for more of the same.

“If you are unhappy with the way things are going, ask yourself which of the alternatives is most likely to be able to hold the big parties to account.

“I’ll be a cat among the pigeons if the people give me a mandate.

People Before Profit has a track record in this town in relation to the toxic dump at Mobuoy Road, the university, our rail link, the housing executive, trades unionism, the rights of young people, of women, of the LGBTI community, of the victims of violence, in particular the violence of state agencies, of the rights of refugees and our duty of care to all with whom we share our humanity.

“On all of these issues, Orange-Green politics is holding us back. We are asking voters this time to make a break for it, for a future in which political parties cannot divide us and then reap a reward at the polls.

“If People Before Profit wins two or three seats in Belfast and Derry, we can change the dynamic at Stormont. We can shift the axis of grass roots politics around so that the issues which most affect people’s lives come to the top of the agenda.

“We have had a terrific campaign. We will be working our socks off until the polls close. We are optimistic about the outcome.

“Our final appeal to the people is - Don’t waste your vote, vote People Before Profit number one.”
