Moutray presses on level crossing

Local MLA Stephen Moutray raised the issue with Minister Danny Kennedy.

Speaking to the Assembly on the Belfast to Dublin Rail Link the Minister made reference to the fact that the possibility of an hourly enterprise service was discussed.

Alderman Moutray subsequently asked the Minister to “outline what discussions he had in relation to delays at level crossings and particularly that of William Street in Lurgan”. The Minister outlined that he would write to the member on the matter.

Speaking to the ‘MAIL’ on this issue Alderman Moutray said, “While in principal I would welcome a more frequent service I believe that there needs to be a mechanism in place to reduce the lengthy waiting times at the William Street Crossing.

“I have lobbied the Minister consistently in terms of the delays caused to motorists at the William Street crossing on a daily basis.

“It is a well-known fact that this is a major contributory factor to the economic situation in Lurgan and the business community are united in the need to address this on-going problem.

“Minister Kennedy needs to take action in this regard and I will continue to call on him in his role as Minister to address the severe time delays experienced by road users and pedestrians.”
