Production will support African famine crisis charity funds appeal

A talented cast and crew made up of people associated with Abbots Cross Presbyterian Church recently performed in a production of Naaman at Theatre at The Mill.

The show is a musical production adapted from the bible story of Naaman. As commander of the Aramean army, Naaman has power, wealth and fame but he discovers he has an incurable disease. His only hope is to return to the land of Samaria, where he previously attacked and plundered, to ask for a miracle cure from the prophet Elisha.

This show has drama, comedy and lots of music - entertainment for all ages. Naaman is played by Samuel Moore. He is supported by a talented cast and band from Abbots Cross Presbyterian Church.

The group will perform in a charity performance of the same show on Thursday, April 13 at 7:45pm.

Cllr Paul Hamill attended the recent production and was very impressed.

After seeing the show, the DUP representative had the idea of suggesting to run the show again, in aid of the African Famine Crisis Appeal.

Speaking to the Times, Cllr Hamill said: “Like a lot of people, I had been saddened after seeing the scenes from east Africa on television. I felt that instead of campaigning to ask people for money, it would be good to run the charity performance.

“This would mean that people would get to enjoy a night out at Theatre at The Mill, while supporting this very worthwhile cause.”

The Macedon DEA representative added: I’d call on as many people as possible to support this event. The cast and production crew should be commended for devoting their time to this additional performance. The council and the Mayor deserve thanks for supporting this charity drive.”

The theatre is owned by Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council. The local authority has taken the generous step of waiving the costs of running the show at the venue. All ticket money raised will be donated to the charity fund.

Commenting on the fundraising effort, Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Cllr John Scott said: “I would urge people to show their support and buy a ticket for this fantastic musical, Naaman. By doing so you will enjoy a great night out at the theatre whilst helping raise funds towards the African famine crisis.”
