£300k boost for local streets

Two road improvement schemes for Antrim totalling £321,000 have been announced by Transport Minister Danny Kennedy.

Resurfacing works will take place in Castle Way, Church Street, High Street and at Chapel Corner roundabout.

Danny Kennedy said: “The improvements will result in the overall strengthening of the road and road users will quickly realise the benefits of the new carriageway surface.”

Work costing £195,000 will begin on Monday 2 June and continue until 13 June 2014 between Castle Way, Church Street and High Street.

To protect the safety of the travelling public and contractors during this surfacing scheme, it will be necessary to close the carriageway to night time through traffic from Monday, June 2 to June 13.

A diversion route will be signposted via Cunningham Way/ Belmont Road and Dublin Road. Road closure notices will be provided in advance of and during these works with adjacent diversionary route signs posted for road users.

Work will begin on the second scheme on Monday, June 16 and continue until June 20 at Chapel Corner Roundabout at a cost of around £126,000.
