Record breaking results at Newtownabbey Community High

The percentage of pupils achieving five or more A* - C grades rose to an all-time high of 68 per cent - up five per cent on the previous best of 2013. The percentage achieving five or more A* - E grades also improved, rising by three per cent to 88 per cent, and the percentage gaining five or more grades A* - G also moved up, to 97 per cent.

“These figures put us above the Northern Ireland average for all secondary schools. When compared with similar schools, these results show Newtownabbey to be one of the top performing schools,” principal John Lewis explained.

Mr Lewis attributed the significant improvements to the strategic partnership approach that the school has developed.

“In addition to our hard working and committed teachers, the children are supported in their learning by a range of other professionals who work closely with the school. This collaborative approach was praised by the Inspectorate in their visit of October 2013 when the school was declared to be ‘very good’.

“We are delighted that so many of our Year 12 pupils, as a result of these excellent achievements, are now well equipped to continue their education through either A Level or vocational courses.

“Myself, the staff and the Board of Governors wish each and every one of them success for the future,” he added.
