Refurbished fitness suite up and running
The official opening of the new state-of-the-art gym took place on September 19.
To help celebrate Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council’s £200,000 investment in the popular Doagh Road facility, a health day was organised for various local businesses to come along and showcase their services to fitness suite members.

In addition there is now an increased muscular strength endurance section, with additional free weights and a separate functional strength and conditioning area incorporating plyometric platforms, TRX cables and a range of sand bags.
Speaking at the launch, Mayor Thomas Hogg commented: “Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council is committed to the continued development of sport and physical activity throughout the borough. Engaging our community in physical activity is vitally important and this £200,000 investment in the fitness suite is just one way of helping achieve the council’s aim of making more people, more active, more often.”
Ray Herron, a long term member of the fitness suite, added: “Being a member of Ballyearl fitness suite for such a long time, it is great to see the council investing in the facility. I enjoy going to the gym to keep fit as well as to socialise, and Ballyearl is great for both. The refurbished gym looks fantastic and I’m sure it will attract many new members.”
