Road closure after rain causes major damage

THE Belsize Road between Wilmar Road and Derriaghy Road has been closed to traffic following damage to a culvert after the heavy rainfall of June 27.

DRD Roads Service has confirmed that an investigation of the culvert has revealed significant undermining of the supporting structure necessitating major repairs.

At the moment Roads Service is at the planning stage and work on site to repair the structure will only start once the design is complete and has been approved.

“Roads Service apologise for the inconvenience caused to the travelling public but remind those affected that the structure is unsafe for traffic” said a statement. A local diversion route using Wilmar Road and Derriaghy Road is signed, while Roads Service has sought to minimise disruption, in works of this nature and magnitude they say it will be ‘unavoidable’.
