Set sail on voyage of reading at Larne library

The Titanic Reading Voyage challenges children aged four and above to read any number of books (between two and 25) over the summer holidays, and also encourages parents to participate by setting their own number of books to read.

Everyone taking part in the challenge will receive a boarding pass, which will be stamped each time they read a book. They will also receive a Titanic Reading Voyage wristband to wear.

And those who achieve their personal goals will be awarded a first class certificate at the end of their reading journey.

Fun activities including word searches, puzzles and colouring sheets will be available in libraries and there will also be a programme of free events including drama workshops and author visits.

Valerie Christie, children’s services manager with Libraries NI said: “This scheme has proved to be a successful way of getting children to read in their spare time during the school holidays. Last year over 8,700 children across Northern Ireland registered for the Summer Reading Challenge and for 2012, as adults are also being invited to sign up, we hope to have a record number of people taking part.
