Peter Eakin has volunteered for the MS Society for over 20 years through the Foyle Branch and throughout Northern Ireland. Since 2009 he has been the Chairman of the MS Society Northern Ireland Council, working alongside volunteers and MS Society staff to support the 4000 people living with MS in Northern Ireland.

“It was a privilege for me to represent the many dedicated MS Society Northern Ireland volunteers at Downing Street,” said Mr Eakin.

“It was an enjoyable event and a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the important role of the MS Society in supporting local people affected by MS. I am very proud to be the Chairman of the MS Society NI Council and was delighted to meet Samantha Cameron and explain why volunteering is important to me.

“Although I don’t have MS myself, I’ve seen over the years how many challenges it presents for people and I’m passionate our fight to beat MS”.

Around 100 MS Society volunteers were at the reception, which was also attended by some of the charity’s celebrity supporters, including BBC Radio 1’s Scott Mills and Oritsé Williams, singer and former member of the boyband JLS.
