The Wild-side at the Mill

The project will get underway this Saturday, February 27 with a community planting day from 11am to 1pm. Everyone is welcome and there will be soup and sandwiches after. This project is being funded by £2,500 from the Grow Wild Community Projects Fund which is a Big Lottery in association with Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew.

The project will create a small woodland glade along the banks of the Cloughmills Water at the Old Mill, Cloughmills. It will comprise of native trees, some of which would be coppiced for green wood working and woodcraft activities. The meadowland behind the Old Mill is served by a riverside walk and this project is designed to introduce a woodland habitat to extend the biodiversity of the overall site. Patrick Frew, Chair of the Group, said: “This project is another step forward in our plans to bring the Old Mill back to life and we are grateful to the Grow Wild Programme and Kew Gardens in recognising the merits of our project.”
