CARRICK post office’s return to the town centre is being brought forward to next week.

Ahead of a consultation period on the proposal launched in July, Post Office Ltd indicated any relocation would likely be in October.

In a statement to the TIMES this week, it announced the branch will move from the Sainsbury store at Rodgers Quay to new premises 0.5 miles away at unit 7, DeCourcy Centre.

“The current premises are being withdrawn for Post Office use and we believe that the move to the town centre provides us with the best opportunity of safeguarding services into the future,” said a Post Office spokesperson.

“We received a number of comments in response to our six-week public consultation period and all of these were considered very carefully before we decided to proceed with the relocation.”

The branch is expected to close at its present site next Wednesday (21 September) and re-open two days later at the Lancasterian Street mall.
