Tragedies highlight need for suicide awareness

THE news that two West Belfast children aged only 11 and 13 have taken their own lives underlines the need for action to prevent further tragedies.

One such initiative was launched at Ballygally last Thursday, when 36 people undertook suicide awareness training.

Participants from a wide range of backgrounds and professions - including education, police, community groups, churches, sports clubs and health care - took part in the short, fully-booked course, which was organised by the Cairncastle Costal Clergy Group with funding from the Public Health Agency and North Antrim Community.
