Wilson links up with Belgian cycling team

FORMER Downshire pupil Jack Wilson this week set off to join a professional cycling team in Europe.

The 17-year-old left on Tuesday to link up with the UCS Crabbe-Performance Voo outfit which is based in the Limburg region of Belgium.

The talented local rider, who is the current Irish National Junior Champion, will be leaving behind his regular routine of racing for East Antrim Cycling Club - the club he has been a member of since he was nine years old.

“He will be stepping out of the ranks of his local club to take this opportunity, but the connection will continue,” his dad Gary told the Times.

“The move to Belgium first came about when Jack was competing in the Junior World Championships in Italy last year. He was staying at the same hotel as the Belgian National Team and that’s were the contact was made.

The team’s manager, Joe Van Gossum, got in touch with Jack to ask him about the possibility of linking up with the squad.”
