Woman admits being drunk in charge of child in Portrush

A woman has admitted an unusual charge of being drunk in public while in charge of a young child.

The charge follows an incident in which she was disorderly at part of one of County Antrim’s best known restaurants.

Tara Jane Lawther (46), of Templeton Park, Templepatrick, assaulted police officers who were called to Coast pizzeria which is run by Ramore Restaurants in Portrush.

The unusual charge of being drunk while in charge of a child under the age of seven in a public place relates to incidents on October 10 this year, Coleraine Magistrates Court was told on Monday.

The defendant also pleaded guilty to being disorderly at Coast and at Harbour Road in Portrush and to three assaults, two of which were on police officers.

A pre-sentence report will be prepared and the case has been adjourned until later this month.

Lawther was released on her own bail of £250 and she is banned from entering any of the Ramore restaurants and is not allowed to drink or enter licensed premises.
