Woman kicked and punched in hijack bid

A 56-year-old woman has been pushed to the ground and kicked during a vehicle hijacking attempt in Coleraine.

The incident happened outside a filling station in the Beresford Avenue area around 5.15pm on Saturday.

The man got into her car and shouted at her to drive. The woman told him to get out of the car and he jumped out.

The woman got out of the vehicle and the man pushed her to the ground and kicked her before the woman was able to get back in the car and lock the doors. The man punched the side and windscreen of the car a number of times before the woman drove off.

The attacker is believed to have been in the company of another man and they ran off in the direction of Mount Street.

The male is described as being approximately 5ft 10in tall with short, spiked blonde hair. He was wearing blue jeans and a light coloured t-shirt. Police are appleaing for information.
