ATHLETICS: Gutsy Guy takes top spot at Tollymore Marathon
Murray Deller took to the start line of the Ultra Marathon; pacing himself well over the 40 miles to claim a fifth-place finish in 5:37:32.
Andy Guy took on the 26.2-mile marathon challenge and went into the race as one of the favourites. He crossed the line one minute ahead of his nearest rival, claiming victory in 3:04:41.

Hide AdIn the half-marathon, Karl Joyce led the way for East Coast, finishing in 1:53:56 (124th). Other times: Alex Robertson 1:54:28, John Steele 1:57:03, Lee Stirling 1:58:26, Nikki McNeill 2:10:48, Sharon Kirkpatrick – 2:16:24. 10K: Kelly Deller – 1:03:38.
Brian Maltman and Amanda Clements took part in the 10k event; Brian claimed a top-20 finish in 48:13 (18th). Amanda followed in 1:01:31.
At the British and Irish International cross country event in Dublin on Saturday Allyson O’Toole, representing Northern Ireland, finished 18th in her category in 24:36.
Elsewhere, Peter McManus recorded a new personal best of 47:02 in the Sheakespeare 10k in Stratford-Upon-Avon.

Hide AdFive East Coast AC athletes ran in the recent McConnell Shield Cross Country event in Ballyclare. Rhys McManus finished sixth (6:30) in the Under-14 race, despite being one of the youngest competitors, and Kelly Patterson was the fifth girl to finish in 6:41.
In the men’s five-mile race, Justin Maxwell finished in 30:45, followed by Chris Davis (35:37) and Allan McCullough (39:14).
