Bann Wheelers compete at Aghagallon

BANN Wheelers riders travelled to Aghagallon on Sunday to compete in the Aghagallon Cup road races.

Gary Kendall continued in a rich vein of form and rode strongly at the front of the race throughout the race and finished in the first 20 riders in the B race, local rider, Alaistair Bratten (Roe Valley CC) also finished in the main group.

Newcomer, Bryan Mc Kinney experienced a dip in form during the event and sensibly retired from the race.

In the women’s event Kay Hack was riding very strongly at the front of the race, Kay however was involved in a crash mid way through the race, Kay got back on the saddle and continued the race eventually finishing just behind the leading riders.

Albie Kendall competed in his first event in the under 14 category, Albie showed determination throughout the race and finished just outside the top 10 placings. A good days racing for Bann Wheelers members was tainted by the fact that Ballymoney CC rider Bobby Kane crashed and caused extensive damage to his bike, thankfully however, Bobby sustained no serious injuries.

Bann Wheelers meeting

The Bann Wheelers will hold a club meeting on Wednesday 31st March at 7.30pm at the Sperrin Club in Coleraine. All members who have yet to sign up for the 2010 season are encouraged to do so on the night as the new season commences in 2 weeks time. Marshals for club events will also be allocated on the night.

Club training runs

The club’s weekly training run meets at the Strand Service Station on the Strand Road in Coleraine on Saturday’s and Sunday’s at 9am, weather permitting. Two training groups will cycle approximately 50 miles, the 1st group will average approximately 18-19 MPH, with the 2nd group averaging 16-17 MPH. The club would welcome anyone who would like to come along and highlight that the rider can turn off to shorten the distance if they wish.
