Blow for Clanns as Stefan goesStateside

Armagh player Stefan Campbell jetted out to New York last weekend to play for the Kerry side in the Big Apple and the move will have come as a big blow to his Clan na Gael team mates who had been expecting him to return to club football following Armagh’s departure from the All Ireland series.

The Lurgan man, who had missed a big part of Armagh’s National Football League campaign through injury, played in all of the County’s Championship games this season and in 2014 he received an Ulster All Star award having been one of the leading lights for his side thought the campaign which ended with a defeat to Donegal at the quarter-final stage.

Although Clan na Gael’s recent wins will have allayed any relegation worries, the blues are still involved in the Intermediate Championship and the loss of their top player will cast doubt on the sides capability of reaching the later stages.

Jamie Clarke and Killeavey’s Kieran O’Hanlon have also moved to the States to play gaelic football over the summer.

With St. Patrick’s Cullyhanna leading the Armagh First Division and already having defeated champions Crossmaglen in the league Clarke’s departure will be a blow to a Rangers team who could be toppled by St. Pat’s in the Gerry Fegan Cup.

Stefan Campbell in recent years has been seen by many fans as being Armagh’ best forward, he is good in the air and has the strength and agility to trouble most defences,.

His Clans team mates will get their league campaign back on the road on Sunday with an away derby tie against St. Peter’s.

The Whites will have both Aaron Findon and Niall McConville back from County duty. They beat Culloville and lost narrowly to a decent Madden side following the return of their former manager Mickey Devlin recently who will be keen to get a couple of league wins under his belt before facing An Port Mor in the Championship.
