Clean sweep for local club

IT was a clean sweep for Lurgan CAC matchmen at the King of the Canal 2010 match fished on the Newry Canal.

Twenty seven anglers fished the five hour match with long poles and short line tactics dominating.

Top rod was Jonathan McKinley, 14lbs; second, Robert Harrison, 12lbs; third, Alan Sharkey, 9lbs and fourth, Jim McAllister, 7lbs.

Robert Harrison's weight included the best fish of the day, a bream of 5 lbs plus.

After three matches in the local Club’s 2010 Summer League, Brian McShane leads the field with 9pts and a total catch weight of 24.760Kgms.

In second place with 11pts and 18.470Kgms is Jim McAllister followed by Stevie Wright with 14pts and 17.830Kgms. Completing the top five are father and son duo Geoff and Jonathan McKinley with Jonathan 4pts ahead of his dad.

Going into round four, Jonathan has 15pts and 16.740Kgms to Geoff’s 19pts and 10.390Kgms!

Despite heavy rain Barry Kidd from Moira had an enjoyable session at Islandderry Fishery on Hollow Springs lake.

Using his own nymph pattern on a floating line he hooked into a lovely fish which tipped the scales at 7lb 2ozs and then went on to release a further 6 trout.

Jamie Sinnamon, Lisburn, fished orange Blobs to release 15 trout while younger brother Stuart, released 25 on the same pattern. John Dickson, Maralin, released 14 and Philip Stronge, Lurgan, released 23!
