Councillor congratulates Causeway Judo Club on recent successes

BALLYMONEY councillor Roma McAfee has visited Causeway Judo Club to congratulate them on their recent competition successes.

The club is not only Ballymoney-based it has now set up a centre in Coleraine at Millburn school and is now also involved with the adults and community leaders within that area.

Local community leader Billy Ellis is helping to promote the sport within the area as it helps the youth focus on all the sport has to offer promoting fitness and well being.

One of the club’s members, Alexander Henry, is the British Junior wrestling champion. Alexander now cross trains with Judo and Alan Ashcroft is both his judo and wrestling coach. Meanwhile, Matt Watterson, who has been attending both Causeway Judo and also Ashcroft Vale tudo/mma has won the middle kyu British Champion title. Matt is also the Chairman of the newly formed Ballycastle Judo club.

Cllr McAfee also paid credit to Alan Ashcroft who lifted the Ballymoney Coach Of The Year Award and she also thanked Causeway coaches Ian McNeill and Marshal Craig for the work they are doing in the club and wished the club success in the coming year of 2013.
