Graeme helps steer seconds to fine away win

Hunter top scored with 72 as the Town side batted first and set Carrick a total of 189 runs to win. Good support was provided by Peter Maxwell (25), Philip Russell (18no) and Neil Kilpatrick (13). A total of 41 extras were conceded by the home side. 
Peter Maxwell proved to be the architect of the Carrick demise as the home side took to the crease. The Lurgan bowler, celebrating his 40th birthday this week, showed his younger colleagues how to bowl tightly and frustrate batsmen into making mistakes as he claimed five opposition wickets for just 19 runs in his seven overs. Graeme Hunter was not to be outdone with the ball and completed an excellent all round performance taking 4 wickets for 31 with the remaining wicket going to skipper Andrew Bingham. Jonny Hunter (0 for 34 off 8 overs), Neil Allen (0 for 14 off 4) and Neil Kilpatrick (0 for 24 off 4) bowled economically and can consider themselves unlucky not to be among the wickets.

The home side were eventually dismissed for 161 in the 37th over to leave Lurgan with an away trip to CSNI in the next round.

At a freezing Pollock park last Wednesday Lurgan defeated CIYMS by 29 runs in their Group B match in the Lagan Valley Steels Twenty 20 Cup. Lurgan batted first and posted a 160 for 7 with Niranjan Godbole hitting 60 and Stephen Johnston 58. The Town bowlers backed up their batsmen and CI never really threatened the Lurgan score finishing on 131 for 8 with Dougherty top scoring on 66. There were two wickets each for Andrew Bingham and Charley Crasborne with Niranjan Godbole conceding only 11 runs from his four overs.
